In 1974, filmmaker Penelope Spheeris formed Rock N’ Reel, the first Los Angeles music video production company. She concluded her music video work with the Grammy-nominated video “Bohemian Rhapsody” for the film Wayne’s World.

Spheeris’ feature film debut was the 1979 documentary about the L.A. punk scene, The Decline of Western Civilization. In 1988, she directed The Decline of Western Civilization Part II; The Metal Years.

Spheeris has also directed Wayne’s World, The Beverly Hillbillies, The Little Rascals, Black Sheep and Senseless.
